Hawks Nest is a relaxed seaside town on the NSW Mid North Coast. By Road: 2 hours from Sydney by car travel F1 freeway

By public transport: Catch a train Sydney to Merewether Newcastle and connect by bus from there to Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens. You can also fly from Sydney to Newcastle Williamstown Airport and connect by bus from there.

Things to do:

Look for koalas in the reserve along Kingfisher Avenue.

Walk to the top of Yacaaba Head, which guards the northern approach to Port Stephens - but be prepared for a tough climb.
